The Affordable, Easy Way to Get Published

Publishing Guidelines

Beaver Publications is happy that you have selected us to become your print-on-demand publishing company. There are a series of steps that need to occur to turn your book into the finished product that consumers will soon be ordering over internet sites such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com . Don’t worry, these steps are easier to follow than you would think, and if you get stuck, someone at Beaver Publications will be there to help you with your questions.

Manuscript Guidelines – Manuscripts should be in a final edited format at the time of submission. Though Beaver Publications does provide proofreading services at a fee of $.02 per word, we do not provide for line-by-line editing, for example, recommending changes in sentence structure, or content editing at this time. Making corrections at the time you receive your electronic proof is expensive. Because of the labor involved with reopening an internal text file, you’ll be charged a flat fee of $40.00 to reopen the file and $1.75 for each correction made at that time.

It should be noted that Beaver Publications is not accepting hard copy manuscripts at this time. Also, Beaver Publications reserves the right to reject any manuscript for reasons including, but not limited to, poor edit quality, highly technical subject matter, non compliant formatting, manuscripts in foreign languages, or manuscripts that are libelous, defamatory, pornographic, or promote hate crimes. If you have any concerns about your manuscript being rejected, please contact us prior to submitting the signed contract.

Select the Trim Size of your book- The following include the trim sizes, page counts, paper stock and paper color offered for Beaver Publications’ perfect bound trade paperbacks. Please enter the desired trim size for your book on your purchase order.

5.5 x 8.5 48 – 600+ Crème 55 lb
6 x 9 48 – 600+ Crème 55 lb
7 x 10 48 – 500+ White 50 lb
8.5 x 11 48 – 500+ White 50 lb

Under some circumstances we may be able to increase the page count of your book over the numbers listed above. Books must contain at least 80 pages to generate a spine, which is a requirement of most bookstores. The final page count must be evenly divisible by 4, and there must be one blank page at the end of the book to accommodate the check barcode information. We will adjust page totals for these requirements. For books totaling over the maximum number of pages, the price charged to turn your manuscript into a book will be adjusted upwards. Please contact us should you require a larger book size.

Covers will be printed on an 80 lb enamel paper and laminated.

  MANUSCRIPT FILE
The First Few Pages of your manuscript The first few pages of your manuscript will include the title of your book, the author’s name, a disclaimer, and perhaps, a dedication. If you personally obtained a copyright or a Library of Congress number for your book, this information should be included on a disclaimer / copyright page. Please review some sample books and draft this page for your manuscript. We will place the ISBN number on this page and all publisher-required information from our end, including any copyright and Library of Congress approvals that we obtain on your behalf. Please remember that Beaver Publications is unable to draft a disclaimer for your book.

  Table Of Contents

If you book requires a table of contents we can include this for a reasonable fee, provided you supply us with a list of what needs to be included in your table of contents. For example, if you require that the table of contents needs to contain only the chapter listings, then you would indicate this by providing us with a list like the one shown here:

Chapter 1 Your chapter 1 name
Chapter 2 Your chapter 2 name
Chapter 3 Your chapter 3 name

However, if you require a more detailed breakdown of your contents, then you should include this breakdown as shown here:

Chapter 1 Your chapter 1 name
Chapter 1 sub-category A
Chapter 1 sub-category B
Chapter 1 sub-category C

Chapter 2 Your chapter 2 name
Chapter 2 sub-category A
Chapter 2 sub-category B
Chapter 2 sub-category C

Chapter 3 Your chapter 3 name
Chapter 3 sub-category A
Chapter 3 sub-category B
Chapter 3 sub-category C

  The Book Text

When formatting the text file for your manuscript please keep the following in mind:

• Single space the manuscript
• Use the font size you would like for your book.
• Designate chapter changes by chapter headings typed in larger font than the rest of the document.
• The book text needs to be one continuous file
• Use a font that you wish to appear in the final product. Keep in mind that Beaver Publications has a limited collection of fonts. If you desire a special font that we do not have, you must send the font files to us. Our recommendation is that you choose a common font that is easy to read; Times New Roman and Arial are two examples of common, easy to read fonts.
• Paragraph indents must be created using the tab key. Do not use the space bar for this purpose, as we will not proof the number of spaces during our review process.
• Do not insert headers, footers or page numbers
• Do not insert any forced page breaks. Page breaks are inserted, as required, during the setup process
• Include in the beginning of your manuscript, the information described above under the heading The First Few Pages of your manuscript
• Do not insert pictures into your manuscript. If your manuscript requires pictures, the pictures must be provided separately and an indicator note should be placed in your manuscript to show where each picture should be located. Each separately provided picture file should contain an appropriate filename to easily identify the image (ex.: photo01.jpg, photo02.jpg, etc.) For example, if this sentence were to be followed by a picture, you would note it as shown here.

  <insert photo05 here>
Caption Text for this image

This would be the first sentence of the next paragraph. Using this method will ensure that we place your picture images in the desired location. Note the optional caption text in the example above. If you require captions for your pictures, this is the way to indicate the caption text.

  Manuscript Pictures
Pictures to be placed in the manuscript are to be submitted electronically and separately, with appropriate names as indicated above. Interior pictures will be grayscale (we currently do not offer any color interiors). Images submitted should be close to the final size you desire for your finished book. We can make slight adjustments to images to correct for small size differences, however it is up to you to provide a high quality image for us to work with. Image resolution should be 300 dpi (dots per inch) and converted to grayscale. If you do not have the ability to convert your images to grayscale, please contact us so we may provide you with a price to convert your images. This service can be provided at a nominal fee. We are not out to break your bank.

  Manuscript Formatting Requirement
Beaver Publications will only accept manuscript submissions in the Microsoft Word format, Word Perfect format, or Rich Text format (RTF).

  Author Photo
The optional author photo, also known as the author “head shot” can be either color or grayscale. Image resolution should be 300 dpi and the image should be approximately 1.75” wide x 2” high.

  Author-supplied Cover Art
Cover art should be prepared in the desired format, color or grayscale, with a resolution of no less than 300 dpi. Full cover art images should be approximately the dimensions of the final trim size of the book you are ordering. We can do only slight resizing of cover artwork. For cover art where the image does not fill the entire front cover, images should be prepared to the approximate dimensions that they will be on the final cover template.
